Wilkie Wines

Bacchus Marsh, Victoria

Wilkie Wines are handmade by Tom Morrison and paired with paintings by Kate Lewis, two cousins who share the same Grandma; Wilkie.

Wilkie Wines offers a selection of small-batch wines made from thoughtfully grown grapes. The winemaking takes place on a little hill overlooking the country town of Bacchus Marsh in Victoria. The winery focus is on creating textural, bright and intriguing wines with wild ferments and minimal intervention.

The winemaker, Tom, has a background in agricultural science and farming. In 2017, he sought a change from cropping and sheep farming and moved to a highly regarded vineyard in the Geelong region. He was instantly swept up by grape growing and, even more so, winemaking. Soon after, he moved from the vineyard to the winery and, following several years there, a vintage stint in California and a postgraduate degree in oenology (wine science), he established Wilkie Wines.

Growing up in a farming family who also share a love for Australian art, it was always the plan to work with art as a focal point, especially that which tells a story of home. ENTER: Kate Lewis.

Kate is Tom’s maternal cousin and favourite artist. Kate uses oil paint and a style steeped in the Australian landscape that stirs memories and a sense of nostalgia. Her manipulation of perspective, light, colour and scale create a blur between imagined moments and real memory.

The name (Wilkie) and Kate’s art make for special moments when sharing the wine with loved ones. Tom and Kate have combined to create a feeling of warmth to be passed on to everyone who holds a bottle of Wilkie Wines.

All of the wines are made on Wurundjeri country.

  • 'Midnight Dilemma' 2022 Shiraz

    13.6% ABV · 750ml Bottle

The depth of the purple hue implies BIG Heathcote Shiraz, which the Midnight Dillema is not. The wine is, instead, soft and plush with a medium body and fine tannins.

Heaps of blueberry, blackcurrant, stewed plumb, spice and eucalypt shine through making it a fantastic wine to pair with food.

It's pure apricots in a glass with heaps of stonefruit, bruised apple and these lovely, light, chalky tannins that hold it all together.

50% Marsanne & 50% Grenache Blanc spent 10 days on the skins extracting colour and the light tannins. Then 2 months in neutral French oak to add to the wine's complexity.

    10.3% ABV · 750ml Bottle

Bright cool-climate Sem/Sauv with heaps of lemon & lime acid, grapefruit and just a hint of nutty nougat from the fermentation in old French oak.
